Software Quality Assurance – Audio Lab Engineer

Project: VoIP Call Quality Testing and Optimization on Echo Devices

  • Role: Lead QA Tester

  • Tools Used: ACQUA from Head Acoustics, various subjective testing methods

  • Enhancing Voice Assistant Functionality

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducted comprehensive VoIP call quality tests on Echo devices.

  • Utilized ACQUA software to perform automated objective tests across multiple parameters, including:

    • Double Talk Performance

    • Send and Receive Frequency Responses

    • Send and Receive POLQA (Perceptual Objective Listening Quality Analysis)

    • Spectral Echo Analysis

    • Audio Front End Latency

    • Terminal Coupling Loss

    • Send and Receive Loudness Ratings

    • Send Speech Level

    • Volume Curves

  • Executed subjective call assessments to evaluate real-world call quality.

  • Collaborated closely with developers to analyze test results and iteratively tune device performance.

 

Highlight: Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen)

  • Led the testing and optimization of a groundbreaking feature: Active Noise Canceling (ANC).

  • Achieved enhanced call clarity through the successful integration of ANC on a multimodal device, a first for Echo products.

Key Responsibilities & Achievements:

  • Network Configuration:

    • Collaborated with IT team to manage and modify the company’s VLAN network.

    • Gained hands-on experience in accessing network switches and implementing necessary changes.

  • Server Room Relocation:

    • Assisted in relocating the server room from the main level to an expanded ground-level facility, ensuring seamless operation during the transition.

  • Remote Work Adaptation:

    • Played a crucial role in enabling remote work capabilities by setting up a camera system on the VLAN network.

    • Facilitated remote engineering work by ensuring that engineers could collaborate with on-site personnel in real-time.

  • Career Transition:

    • After successfully setting up the camera system, transitioned into a Lab Engineer role under the lab manager.

    • Began hands-on training in setting up and testing chips on circuit boards, marking the start of my career in lab engineering.

 

This experience highlighted my adaptability and ability to quickly learn and apply new skills, leading to a significant career shift into a more technical role.

    • Developed and maintained project timelines, coordinating with suppliers and internal teams to meet project deadlines.

  • IT Team Contributions:

    • Initiated by setting up new computers for employees, ensuring smooth onboarding and operational readiness.

    • Led several IT projects, including:

      • Mobile Device Management (MDM): Implemented a secure and efficient system to manage company-owned mobile devices.

      • Conference Room Systems: Installed iPad scheduling systems for conference rooms, streamlining booking processes.
